10 Small Details And Mechanics We Love About RimWorld

RimWorld has a lot to like, but these little details really make it stand out.

RimWorld is a simple game where you run a city and have to figure out how it works on your own. Even if you get through the short tutorial, you could have a hard time with the game if you don’t have a beginner’s guide to point you in the right way. It would be an insult to say that this title isn’t easy.

Once you know how to play RimWorld and have tried and failed a lot to get things set up right, you can start to enjoy the small features that are in the game. On a big picture level, you may love the strategy or the amount of difficulty. On a small scale, there are some things that might have been missed or forgotten when a colony was being built.

Never Get Tired Of The Music

Never Get Tired Of The Music

The music doesn’t take over the game as a whole. Usually, the music in modelling and building games like RimWorld plays in the background, where you can’t hear it.

But RimWorld is more about the sounds of the survivors cutting down trees or removing ore. The fact that the music gets louder when the game is paused is a small detail that we like. This lets you plan your next building project in a casual and relaxed way.

The Calendar Holds The Keys To Healthy Colonists

The Calendar Holds The Keys To Healthy Colonists

RimWorld has a lot of options you can look through to build a successful colony through zoning, farming materials, and giving tasks. Many of these options hold the keys to winning, but the calendar is one of the best and most useful parts of the game.

In most colony builders, the harvest time is marked by a season indicator or a single month. RimWorld, on the other hand, combines the names of two current months into one word (and season) to make the game easier to play, especially since the rest of the game requires a lot of micromanagement. For example, Aprimay means spring, while Decembary means winter. This is a cute little feature that we like, but shouldn’t it be called “Decemarch” to make up for the months that are missing?

The Devil Is In The Details

This may be a small thing that makes you laugh, but colonists are better able to stay alive when they learn new upgrades through the study tree. But that isn’t the interesting part by itself. The animation you see when a colonist is using the study desk makes you feel something. When you zoom in on what the colonists are doing, you can see that they are just moving papers around.

In other colony-building games, you have to spend a few resources or wait a while to move along the study trees. RimWorld, on the other hand, shows you how new technology is learned. This is something we like.

The Avatars Display More Than You Think

The Avatars Display More Than You Think

We also like another small thing about RimWorld. When one of your people gets hurt, you can see how badly they’ve been hurt. In the picture above, a wild zebra attacked Graham and hurt him badly. She caught the animal near the home base and close to the medical centre, which helped her recover quickly because the wounds were not too bad.

Still, bed rest and simple herbs don’t work for every illness. For example, if a colonist gets sick, they need more medical care or they might die.

Simple Animations For Building Structures

There will always be parts of games like RimWorld that you might not like at first. There are a few other colony-building games that can use up a lot of your PC’s resources. So that this problem doesn’t happen, making a structure is less complicated. This lets the graphics focus on other parts of the game and doesn’t put too much strain on your machine.

The above screenshot shows how RimWorld is able to fill in the marked area without slowing down the game, which is nice.

See Text Detail When Wounds Heal

Sometimes, your colonists will need to save people from groups that are close by. If you take them to the hospital, their wounds will heal and they might join your group. When it comes to in-game triage, one small thing we like is that the game shows words when wounds have healed.

Most video games don’t pay much attention to how healing works, so it’s nice to be able to see the colonist’s health better. RimWorld doesn’t have as many details as Two Point Hospital.

A Detailed Wildlife List Is Handy

A Detailed Wildlife List Is Handy

A lot of simulation games have AIs that take care of the farming and hunting parts. Because of this, you might not get enough information about how hard it is to hunt things. You also don’t know what kind of return you’ll get from games. Because of this, it can be hard to figure out how many hunters your group will need to stay alive.

In RimWorld, you can hunt specific animals by clicking on the “Wildlife” tab instead of looking all over the map. But what’s great about this feature is that the menu shows each animal by itself. It tells you how likely it is that the colonists will be attacked based on what you hunt. We also like this menu’s ‘I’ button, which gives you information. The information tab tells you how resistant the animal is to poison, what kind of leather it gives, how much meat it can give you, and a lot more!

Directional Arrows Lead To Important Events

Directional Arrows Lead To Important Events

The signs that point to where an event is taking place are one of our favourite parts of RimWorld. During Spacebar Clicker game, colonists from nearby places may come to your colony to trade goods. Sometimes, the directions show where a disaster has happened.

You don’t have to use this tool to find an event. So you can get the same information in different ways, such as by clicking on the right side of the screen when an event pops up. You can also click on the words in the top left corner of the screen. But if you want these arrows, just move your mouse over the event and the big white arrows will show up.

See The Small Details On A Sarcophagus

In many games about living in a colony, death is just an aside. In RimWorld, it’s different because if a colonist dies from illness or injury, you have to put them in a sarcophagus.

The good thing about this is that after your colonist dies, you can click on the tomb to see who made it, who is buried in it, and when they died. Even though it’s a small thing, we love it when games like this one show respect.

Colonists Pay Respect To The Dead

Colonists Pay Respect To The Dead

Along with the way RimWorld honours the dead, there is another element we like. When people die, unlike in games like Spiritfarer, there isn’t much attention paid to visiting their graves or honouring them in any way.

During the game, when a colonist dies, your other colonists will take the time to say goodbye. This isn’t a feature that video games usually pay attention to, but we love it. It’s great to see how much thought some game makers put into their work.
