She went on to say that although the city of Denver is pricey (with a typical property value of $560,000 in February 2023) for first-time buyers, there are many more inexpensive alternatives in the surrounding suburbs. City, State: New York, USA

The thirties are a time to travel the world and advance one’s profession. Matthew Hughes, a broker in Manhattan with Brown Harris Stevens, believes that “there is no better city in the world to accomplish that than New York City.”

New York City has unparalleled variety and world-class entertainment. MoneyNerd found that New York City is one of the best places to find a work-life balance, placing first in the categories of both employment availability and average compensation. The city is known for its high cost of living, unfortunately. First-time purchasers shouldn’t be put off by this, however.

Swiss city of Zurich

The biggest city in Switzerland consistently places high on lists of those with the finest work-life balance and highest quality of life. A recent poll found that the average annual income was $82,191 and that residents reported high levels of contentment. “Austin is great for first-time homebuyers because there are options at every price point within 30 to 45 minutes of almost everything the city offers,” Millheiser said. Zillow reports that the typical house price in the city is $561,613, whereas Millheiser reports that the median home price in the suburbs is closer to $350,000.

In addition, Canada offers extensive parental leave, which is a significant incentive for people to settle down there. The North Shore Mountains and Pacific Ocean provide a stunning background for many of the area’s attractions.

Kathryne Psihogios of Cascade Hasson Sotheby’s International Realty told T+L, “We really have it all, from fishing, camping, hiking, wind sports, and skiing.”

Portland is one of the few major West Coast cities where first-time buyers are favoured in the real estate market. In the past five years, the number of millennials who are homeowners in the city has increased by 146%.

“There are several great neighbourhoods in Portland that are attracting the 30-something buyers,” said Aimee Virnig, principal broker at Windermere Real Estate. Irvington, Laurelhurst, Alameda, Hawthorne, and Sellwood remain popular choices for those with more disposable income. However, many first-time purchasers are not in a position to spend much. Neighbourhoods like Cully and Roseway in North-east Portland offer older bungalows and craftsman homes; Parkrose and Argay Terrace in outer North-east Portland offer a nice stock of mid-century properties on larger lots; and we’re finding some great fits in these areas because we’re focusing on what’s most important to this group, such as the size of the home and yard, proximity to work and schools.

Where: In the heart of Sweden, Stockholm

Stockholm’s great quality of life may be attributed to the city’s thriving economy, well-developed public transit network, plenty of green space, and world-class medical and educational facilities. Neighbourhoods catering to young people have sprung up all around the nation’s capital, completely altering its character. The robust and stable employment market that guarantees a good quality of living is still the key lure for persons in their thirties. There’s always something to do in D.C., even in the summer when many locals go to the nearby beaches in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and North Carolina. West Virginia and Pennsylvania both have excellent snow conditions for winter sports like skiing and snowboarding.

According to Andrew Pariser, a broker with Long & Foster Real Estate, “it’s hard to imagine a more ideal place to buy a first home than Washington, D.C.,” when one is in one’s thirties. Because of its status as the nation’s capital, real estate values in Washington, D.C. are less volatile than those in other parts of the country when considering potential resale value.
